Release notes

I will add all the change notes for each version here.

I will add the new parts identified with the version number when they replace an old part. This way, you can use either the old version or the new one, according to your choice.

v1.1

  • Added "nut shape" M5 holes on 3 parts, where it is difficult to screw after full assembly. Affected parts: the two "top exterior Y axis" parts, and the motor mount "rear top Z axis".

v1.2

  • Added a suction / dust collector support
  • Added an openable drag chain
  • Added rail supports for the drag chain

v1.3

  • Added a 52 mm spindle support (standard spindle type ER11 500W)
  • Modified the suction support to make it adjustable and removable

v1.4

  • Added a trapezoidal lead screw end support (End LeadScrew Support)
  • Added a 20 mm shim
  • Modified the front and rear drag chain supports of the Y axis to better match the "motor foot support"

Parts list

To build this machine, you need to print each part of the project in 1 single copy, EXCEPT:

  • 28× Wheel spacers
  • 04× Bottom Y Axis
  • 02× Rear Foot

For the parts to buy:

List of components (excluding 3D printing)

Nom Qté Notes
Nema 17 motors 4
Rigid couplers 5mm / 8mm 3
V-Slot 2040 aluminum profiles (length of your choice) 4
Vis T8 with nut (100mm shorter than the VSlot) 3
Nylon wheels with 5mm bearing (like on 3D printers) 14
Chrome steel rods Ø8 mm — 180 mm 2
Screw T8 — 200 mm with nut 1
Linear bearings LM8UU 4
Standard bearings 8mm (type 608ZZ) 3
GT2 pulley 20 teeth, bore 5 mm 1
GT2 pulley 20 teeth, bore 8 mm 1
GT2 closed belt — 200 to 220 mm 1
12V 5A power supply 1
Arduino (with GRBL) 1
CNC Shield V3 1
Makita RT0700C 1
Bearing housing (with stop screw) 1

Fasteners

Nom Qté Notes
M6 × 30 mm 12
M6 × 35 mm 4
M5 × 50 mm 26
M4 × 15 mm 22
M4 × 10 mm 8
V-Slot nuts M4 30
M3 × 15 mm 16
wood screw 4 mm 20
For each line of screws, also think about the nuts and a few washers.
35 mm is VERY important for screwing the spindle support onto the Z carriage; if the screws exceed this, it blocks the carriage.

Where to buy the components

I find most of the parts on Amazon (the links in the materials list) except for:

  • The long T8 trapezoidal screws: I buy them on AliExpress
  • The aluminum profiles: I buy them from Systeal or Dold-mechatronik
  • For the router / spindle, I use the Makita RT0700C, but there is also the Katsu 101750, which is less efficient and less precise but half the price of the Makita
