Welcome Sam! you are right. Parts to be purchased are the same that Nema 17.
It's a new adventure for me as well ;-)
According the standard size of screw I would recommand 1200x1500 or 1500x1500 if you plan to use SFU ball screw. If you plan to use trapezoïdal screw you can have the size you want because you could cut them on your own specific size.
Hello FredDeLAin,
Thank you for the information. Would you please let me know what is the different between trapezoidal and SFU ball screw?
which one is better. Actually I don't mind to make it 1500 x 1200. I only need the X axis to be 1500mm as I make signage and the Acrylic or Aluminum sheets are coming in the size of 1220 x 2440mm. so the width for the working area should be at least 1220 mm.
Both are advantage and disadvantage :

Mainly : ballscrew is more efficient but less robust in bad condition

Hello FredDeLAin,
Thank you so much for the clear info. I use the CNC only for cutting 3mm - 30mm Acrylic or PVC to make signboard and 3d letters.
There is not much work and I think the trapezoidal should do my job. As you know the PVC or Acrylic sheets are coming in standard size of 1220 x 2440 mm.
So I need my working area to be at least 1250 mm width and the length about 1500mm.
Please let me know if I am right if I buy the items as the following :.
- X AXIS: Aluminum 2040 5pcs - Length: 1350 mm
Trapezoidal Screw = 1250 mm x 1 pcs -(Note: TrapezoidaT8 or T12 for nema 23?)
- Y AXIS: Aluminum 2040 4pcs - Length: 1500 mm
Trapezoidal Screw = 1400 mm x 2pcs - (Note:TrapezoidaT8 or T12 for nema 23?)
- Z AXIS: Trapezoidal Screw: 200mm x 1 pcs - (Note: The length is 200mm or bigerfor nema 23?
And what about Trapezoida screw T8 or T12 for nema 23?)
Hope to hear from you soon, so I can place the order and buy these items.
have a great time and thank you in advance.
Because mine is not finished yet, I'm not sure of the exacte oversizing you need to reach 1250mm (but for sure your leadscrew must be more than 1250 because you have a bit losting area on each extremity). Probably topsie or other people, that already finished their machine, could confirm you better than me.
Thank you for your quick reply.
Wow
Thank you for this CNC build. Really excellent job.
I am having trouble printing the legs as they are slightly bigger then my 200x200 printer base. is there any way to fix this.
If I cut the motor mount in half and glue after printing, will this work. can maybe reinforce with motor washer at the back.
I am using T12 lead screws. Is there a T12 nut holder. The nut I have does not have a flange, so can the holder be split to incorporate the nut in the middle.
Thanks again
