Settings on DM542Y 🇬🇧

Topsie

What is the settings on DM542Y driver?

My Nema 23 stepper is running at 60-72 Celcius (4 hours work), the 3D printed parts dont like it.

I am using the ones Topsie provided on the page with link

https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/cnc-kit/3-axis-cnc-router-kit-3-0-nm-425oz-in-nema-23-stepper-motor-and-driver-and-power-supply.html/?tracking=5e5d1a13c75e4

Only nr 6 is on - the rest is off - https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/image/cache/catalog/stepper-driver/DM542Y%201-1000x1000.jpg

same powersupply and nema as he is using in his videos for nema23

Super

I will try to go down to 6400 and see if it helps on the temp.

If not i will try also reduce the current.

My leadscrews is 8mm and symptones are only on nema23

I will write again tomorrow

Maybe this cooling fan would be useful.

It looks as though we might have been better of with closed loop systems which power down the motors when stopped.  A bit more expensive though.

I have test the stepping 6400, no help for the temp, but it runs fast and smooth.

i took the current down to 2.36 A, it will help then the steeper is in "pause hold" but the temp is rising af 2 hours constant work to 60 Celcius.

I have orderet some couplings 10/8 in metal, the 3D printed is braking down all the time, I hope the metal couplings can transfere some heat from the stepper sharft to the leadscrev. Just a little will help.

if thay are not helping, a nema23 bracket like this perhaps will help  https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/7C8AAOSwO71Zy0gw/s-l400.jpg

Sorry for the spelling :-)

Is the shaft getting hotter than the body of the motor?

Set more pulse than 6400 will be a bit hard to calculate for a simple arduino

I dont have heating problem with my Nema23, you maybe need to reduce current wich is the common problem for too hot motor

Thanks Topsie

But what pulse and and current are you using please?

I have the same hardware as you.

My current is down to 2.36 A - and I am pulse stepping 6400 - but after 2 hours constant work the temp is up to +50

Love the build - when it runs it is amazing, and very accurate.

I will check this when I come back home

Does anyone have any feedback concerning Nema 23 heating?
