Hello!

I am looking into purchasing some endmills for my Heavy NEMA17, I am using the Makita Router, which only has a 1/4 inch collet (designed to work only with 1/4 inch shanks). My problem is that I cannot find any small diameter endmills with a 1/4 inch shank. What has everyone else been doing? Is there a custom collet I can buy, and where?

I custom machined one from stanless steel, it has a 1/8            3mm hole.

Onsrud mills and Datron mills are good options. the Datron ones are more expensive, but more durable with better quality finishes.

According to Jean-Robert Michel, Once you understand your CNC and you know how to use it properlly, I think using a good quality end mill is important to got good job done.

A good 4mm end mill for 50$ is very better than 10x 4mm poor quality end mill, that you will break every 2 cut.

Here (in France) I use some italian tool, called "CMT Orange Tool", very good end mills for wood and acrylics actually

EXACTLY! Spend on cheap mills to gain some understanding of your machine's tolerances and performance against your chosen materials. You won't cry as much when you break them. However, you will inevitably come to a point where you just "get it" and will feel comfortable moving on to better quality mills.
