Hello all,
I have been lurking around thinking of building my own cnc for woodwork for quite some time had originally found the mpcnc but would not have the size with the rigidity I was looking for. The heavy I am building is using 1500mm rails for both x and y and should hopefully allow for cutting of a half sheet of plywood (or other sheet goods). I have read through many posts thanks to translating and have learned a great deal and there are some great builds on here. I am still waiting for the last of my parts to arrive from china and and building the table for it to sit on.
The questions I had were to a couple of different mods that were put out by topsie and others regarding play within the motor. I have already printed the bearing holder topsie had put out in his video and on the design page, I have since seen different lead screw locking systems from davidc and idlefixes among others. I was wondering if I should still be using that system to prevent play in motor or lock the lead screw end under tension? Or both? Opinions are greatly appreciated. I was also looking for a spindle mount for a 500w spindle have the z axis bigger cart. Thanks in advance to topsie and to all advice, pictures of progress to follow of my build progress
Hello
I think you want to build the topscnc heavy.
For 500W spindles there are adapters on thingiverse for 55mm diameter.
The topsie system to lock the screw is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended. Blocking the end is also recommended, especially with long screw lengths.
Thank you for those adapters I had not seen those yet. Has anyone tried utilizing the aluminum mount that come with these, the heatsink could possibly save the mount pla.
I have already printed almost all of the parts for the topscnc heavy version with nema 23s i have only seen the screw end blocking for nema 17 screw patterns.
I would like to start off trying to be as rigid as possible due to the size and length of screws could possible start to whip at speed.
i have already printed almost all of the parts for the topscnc heavy version with nema 23s i have only seen the screw end blocking for nema 17 screw patterns.->it seems to me that there is none.
for screw end locking for nema 23 screw designs, Once the assembly is done, come back to see me and I will draw you a drawing of the part.
Thank you for the offer if i can't get it sorted I may take you up on that. I was considering using a pillow block and mounting it to a plate in the nema 23 hole to hold tension the other direction. I've just finished the table frame hopefully I figure out how to post pictures and I can show the progress
Any progress? I built the Heavy Nema23. I have noticed some play with the router along the x-axis. When cutting corrugated plastic I will see a 1-2mm x-axis deviation in the cut when the mill passes through one of the joists/extrusions within the corrugated plastic.
